Joe and dogs at fence

Shanachie Irish Wolfhounds belong to Donna and Joe Monahan. In 2003, we relocated from New Jersey to Vermont where we currently own 8 Irish wolfhounds and a Border terrier named Roxy. Nestled in the Green Mountains of South/ Central Vermont, our twenty acre homestead gives plenty of room for our hounds to romp and enjoy the country life.

We have shown both in obedience and conformation over the years. Our first wolfhound, Ceara was an avid courser. Earning her field championship as well as an obedience title.  Our kennel name was derived from the registered name of our second wolfhound, Nathan... Rosslare's Shanachie.

After the tragedy that took Nathan's life, we decided to name our kennel in his honor. Shanachie means storyteller, and so the story of our kennel began. We have produced 5 champions so far, and hope our future will hold many more.

Along the way we adopted a rescue wolfhound, Bailey.  He graced our home for 7 years and passed at the age of 11.  Bailey taught us much about the heart and soul of the Irish wolfhound. Working with a rescue became a moving experience. Seeing his transformation from a sad and neglected hound, to a happy healthy boy was extremely rewarding.
